Torrente Uses Warm “Floridays” to his Advantage!

ABU DHABI – Thursday, January 26, 2012 – Last years UIM F1 H2O World Championship sensational rookie Shaun Torrente of the Qatar Team is out to prove to his new team and the rest of the world that he is ready to make the next big move in the sport, challenging for wins and podium finishes in 2012.

With the opening round of the new campaign less than seven weeks away scheduled for the ninth and 10th of March in Doha, Qatar, Shaun is taking advantage of his home waters and driving less than a half hour from his home in South Florida to his marina in Key Largo where the waters are always warm 26C (78F) and the boating on Florida Bay and the open Atlantic are some of the most sought after anywhere in North America.

“It’s so great to get out on the water and just enjoy boating for what it is, relaxing and a way to take the family on a fun filled day together and isn’t that what life is all about,” asked Shaun.

“We participate in a lot of charity “poker runs” around the state including the Gulf of Mexico on the West Coast of Florida and socializing with other people who enjoy the water and spread the word about our F1 series which is great to do as well.”

Shaun, who recently joined the Qatar Team for the 2012 campaign, holds multiple titles in the ChampBoat, SST-120 (F2) and SST-45 (F4) in North America in the last decade. He came to the UIM F1 H2O World Championship a year ago and accumulated more points than any other rookie finishing with 16 on the strength of his finishes at the Grand Prix of Qatar where he took fourth place and a fifth place at the season’s final round in Sharjah last December.

The 33 year-old driver joins a talented group that took the Team Championship a year ago and is hi-lited by newly crowned World Champion Alex Carella of Italy and new local Qatari driver Khalid Al Shamlan who arrives from the Formula 4S series.

“I’m really looking forward to working with what I consider the series most talented people in Team Manager Khalid Al Kuwari and engine guru and racing strategist Brendan Power who I’ve already spent time with at his race headquarters in Tampa, Florida. I think we will have a great relationship and hopefully more success for the team in 2012.”

When Shaun isn’t working he loves to head to the marina straight away with his wife Flavia and his young daughter Isabella in his 28 foot (9 meter) Skater catamaran boat which can reach speeds of over 100mph or 162 kph fulfilling his “need for speed” until at the least it’s time to head for the opening race of the 2012 UIM F1 H2O World Championship for power boating at the 10th Annual Grand Prix of Qatar in Doha on the ninth and 10th of March.
