The Molinari "Monster"..the real story..

Published by:

…about the Molinari Monster.

In 1979 Mercury Racing came to Bristol with the new big 3.4 liter V-6 Merc T-4 and
OMC could not keep up with there 3.0 liter V-6.
Molinari was upset and built the new Molinari Monster with 2 X Evinrude 3.0 liter V-6.
This was legal in the OZ class but there was an old Gentlemen’s Agreement to only use one outboard in the OZ class.
In 1979 OMC did not have the 3.5 liter F1-V8 engine.
That engine was raced for the first time in Brodenbach 1981..
How do I know this..Easy..I was there..!!
So this quote from Mercury Racing is wrong..
“1979 OZ World Championship in Milan, Italy was his most memorable race. Mercury was now campaigning the larger, 3.4 Liter V-6 engine called T-4. OMC would usually compete with their even larger V-8. They shocked everyone when Renato Molinari showed up with twin V-6 outboards on the transom.”
.
Back then..Molinari was the man in Italy and yes he did everything he could to win the race in Milan 1979..but Billy Seebold with his single Merc ended up the winner..
=============================================================================
Renato Molinari was the winner of the first F1-V8 race in Brodenbach 1981 with his Evinrude 3.5 liter V8…
Here is the story about the World debut of F1-V8..https://svera.se/blogg/f1-v8/forst-till-bojen/

SVERA.se have now been up and running for a month..
I am so happy to see that over ten thousand visitors have checked out my experience from racing in the seventies and eighties..
Back then OMC and Mercury was spending tons of money to sell outboards on a Monday after a race weekend.
Well..maybe looking back is only fun for older people..but hey..The young guns
are getting older way faster then they think..
One more thing..It looks like Mercury Racing have checked SVERA.se..
This is the headline from Mercury Racing today..
“Mercury Racing launches a series of blog posts on the history of factory outboard tunnel racing”.
Again..Thanks for clicking in here and please come back soon..!!

PS..Hehe..Picture show me back when all the fun in boat racing  started..1971/72.
