Charlie Strang a true legend in the marine business have left us.

Published by:

CHARLES DANIEL STRANG, JR.
April 12, 1921 – March 11, 2018.

I remember when I first met Charlie at the Paris 6 Hour race in the early seventies.
My Evinrude friends told me to go up to him and present myself.
Well..I was not sure if that was the right thing to do..
The CEO and President of Outboard Marine Corporation and the maker of Evinrude/Johnson outboards may not have any interest talking to a very young race driver from Sweden.
I finally did and to my surprise Charlie was very friendly and asked about my race boat.
If I remember right his mother was with him also.
My friends asked me what Charlie told me but I was so stressed out and needed to sit down.
Later I met Charlie many times as an Evinrude dealer and race driver. He was always friendly and its a big honor to have done a lot of outboard business with a marine icon like Charlie D. Strang.
The Evinrude Super Strangler was probably named after Charlie but I don’t know that for sure.
I spent a few hours digging up every picture I could find on the internet of the famous Evinrude Super Strangler race engine and here they are in a mixed order. (Close to fifty)
Starting with a few pictures of Charlie Strang.

Finally Evinrude Outboards have a new leader and the future looks bright again.

Most people know I was very disappointed with the old top management/marketing at BRP Evinrude Division.
The new leader for Evinrude Outboards is Tracy Crocker and he hit the ground running making changes since almost day one. The old Marketing guy is gone. Improving production quality is top priority and 10 year warranty.
Tracy and Krista Sparks is going to be a good team.
Please watch this video for Evinrude dealers.

Francois Salabert of France.
This is from Leon, Spain.
The first race in the F1-V8 series 1982. This was also Francois first race with the same V8 power as the other two JPS boats driven by Tom Percival and Bob Spalding.
Francois did extremely good and finished second in this race with his brand new #12 Velden Racing/JPS/Johnson V8 3.5 liter 2 stroke looper.
Yes, I was there racing F3 and did little bit better than Francois.
