Marvin Catrett & Evolution Marine – High Performance OMC V6 and V8 engines.

Published by:

I meet Marvin Catrett the owner of Evolution Marine in Morgan City, Louisiana
1987 at a  Offshore race in Marathon.
Marvin was big into making lots of horse power out of stock OMC V8 production outboards.
If I remember right the Phase 4 modifications of the OMC V8 was the most powerful.
He supplied three of the Phase 4 V8 engines for a 38 ft Larry Smith built Scarab.
This boat was used as a pace boat and rescue boat at the Offshore races.
A ended up buying this boat and exported it to Patrick Rinne in Finland.
(Last picture)
Patrick raced the boat a few times in the Stockholm – Helsinki race 1988.
There was two Evolution Marine Scarab 38 built and rigged the same way.
Also a 43 ft with similar rigging.
Here is a mix of pictures.
In 1999 we traveled to Morgan City in our Motorhome home and parked at his house.
Marvin’s wife Donna made Cajun style crawfish and we had a very good time.
Thanks for all the fun memories Marvin.

Well, I was dreaming big when I started boat racing 1971/72.

This is my Volvo Duett “race truck” and the first Piraya 16 with Evinrude power and a home made yellow racing overall. The Hilton Hotel behind the race boat..still a lot of fun and life time memories.
Most races was back home in Scandinavia that year.
Those pictures always makes me smile..Never forget your history..and enjoy your future.

The 3 liter OMC V-6 Purpose built looper race engine with fuel injection.

Published by:

This engine was first raced in 1977 (Paris 6 Hours) and was used only by OMC factory race drivers up to early 1981 in the UIM OZ class.  Replaced with the OMC 3.5 liter racing V8 in Brodenbach, Germany in June 1981.
Most V-6 looper 3 liter race engines was equipped with fuel injection but there was a few with carburetor.
Mainly because legal action from Mercury Racing and OMC could not use the fuel injection for six month if I remember right.
Yes it is me in the beige pull-over behind Renato Molinaris 3 liter V6 looper with fuel injection in Drammen, Norway 1980. (first picture)
Note.. this engine was also using the CCC decal but was a completely different animal from the first 2.4 cross flow triple C

Some pictures are by Sture Sjoberg.

Thank you.

Paris Six Hours 1979… OMC overall win. Beats the Merc T-4 with a 3 liter V-6
