Marcus Friberg is one tough racer but…..

Published by:

Well..this is one perfect example why boat racing is not the way it use to be.
The Mercury boys have over the last ten years made fun of Evinrude not racing.
Marcus Friberg stepped up to the plate and took the risk of going racing in Sweden with Evinrude power last year. Marcus won lots of races in the V-150 class with his Nitra boat powered by Evinrude 150 H.O. Beating the Mercury powered boats in the same class.
Well this year Marcus built a new Nitra Boat for the bigger V-300 class. He picked the brand new Evinrude G2 250H.O. as the power plant.
Mercury outboards was again left in the dust as long as Marcus had enough fuel in the tank.
Now the Mercury boats are staying home and don’t race in the V-300 class anymore.
Today in the Nynas Offshore Race in Sweden Marcus was the only participant in the V-300 class /Nordic Offshore Powerboat Championship.
He raced anyway and was fighting the bigger Merc inboard boats and did pretty good.
Marcus..don’t give in. The boat racing world need entrepreneurs like you..

Roslagsloppet Offshore Race 2015

Published by:

My short take on this classic famous boat race I have been part of for many times in the past.
It is pretty incredible that so many drivers pick Evinrude as their choice of power and doing extremely well.
You have to remember there is no support from the Evinrude factory run by BRP.
Regardless..the private drivers paying for there own Evinrude Outboards, parts and service won four very popular classes by beating the competition.
I am so happy for them and so disappointed I could not get the BRP management to at least show some interest for boat racers around the world.
As a former racer, dealer and Evinrude Ambassador I know how important it is the be number one.

Extra congratulations to the four class winners with Evinrude power below…and congrats to the other class winners also.

World Championship boat racing from Nottingham, UK 1980

Published by:

Today I received very nice racing pictures from Duncan Parnell a new FB friend of mine.
1980 was a very good year in racing for Sture Sjöberg and me.
Please read my short story and check the pictures out below.

After Sture Sjoberg and I finished third in the Paris Six Hours 1979 with the first F3 boat Sture built in Tullinge, Sweden we where ready for more.
Sture built his second F3 boat with some input from me.
I made sure we got the right power from Evinrude.
Lots of testing and I remember going to Norway to race the new boat in the Scandinavian F3 championship and ended up winning.
Back home for more testing and the next big race was the F3/OE Sprint World Championship race in Nottingham, UK.
The event was on the Bank Holiday early August 1980 at the Holmepierre Point row boat station.
A perfect place for sprint tunnel boat racing.
My #1 Sjoberg/AKAI/Evinrude CC was very fast but difficult to handle.
To much lift but I felt pretty good..and was thinking a top three is possible.
I do not remember exactly how I did in the four heat and three counts but remember I was as fast as Renato Molinari but could not keep up with John Hill.
John was very strong and won the race pretty easy.
I ended up sixth overall and was not very happy with the result.
Back home to boat builder Sture Sjoberg for more modifications on the brand new boat design.
The next big race was Paris Six Hours in early October 1980. We put all our effort in to modify the boat for victory in the most important race in the history of boat racing..
