Today I received very nice racing pictures from Duncan Parnell a new FB friend of mine.
1980 was a very good year in racing for Sture Sjöberg and me.
Please read my short story and check the pictures out below.
After Sture Sjoberg and I finished third in the Paris Six Hours 1979 with the first F3 boat Sture built in Tullinge, Sweden we where ready for more.
Sture built his second F3 boat with some input from me.
I made sure we got the right power from Evinrude.
Lots of testing and I remember going to Norway to race the new boat in the Scandinavian F3 championship and ended up winning.
Back home for more testing and the next big race was the F3/OE Sprint World Championship race in Nottingham, UK.
The event was on the Bank Holiday early August 1980 at the Holmepierre Point row boat station.
A perfect place for sprint tunnel boat racing.
My #1 Sjoberg/AKAI/Evinrude CC was very fast but difficult to handle.
To much lift but I felt pretty good..and was thinking a top three is possible.
I do not remember exactly how I did in the four heat and three counts but remember I was as fast as Renato Molinari but could not keep up with John Hill.
John was very strong and won the race pretty easy.
I ended up sixth overall and was not very happy with the result.
Back home to boat builder Sture Sjoberg for more modifications on the brand new boat design.
The next big race was Paris Six Hours in early October 1980. We put all our effort in to modify the boat for victory in the most important race in the history of boat racing..
